In this assignment, you are given a descriiption of a small tax prep company, and must provide technical details for 3 categories of employees: (1) Certified Public Accountant (CPA), (2) Tax Specialist, and (3) Data-Entry Specialist. For each type of employee, you will need to provide very specific information on the software, hardware, security, etc. that each person would need.
I expect that you will submit a Microsoft Word (*.docx) document that is organized in the following way:
Hardware
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Tax Specialist
Data-Entry Specialist
Software
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Tax Specialist
Data-Entry Specialist
Security
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Tax Specialist
Data-Entry Specialist
Component Purposes
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Tax Specialist
Data-Entry Specialist
Human-Computer Interaction
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Tax Specialist
Data-Entry Specialist
Network Components (Visio Diagram)
Within each section (e.g., Software), you are free to use either paragraphs or bullet points, as long as it fulfills the rubric requirements. It is also okay if some of the requirements are the same for two or more roles, but you’ll need to justify why that’s the case.
Also notice that you will need to create a Visio diagram showing the network components. Please *do not* submit Visio files directly. Instead, please export your Visio diagram as an image, then add the image to your Microsoft Word document. I have linked to sites explaining how to accomplish both steps.
Quick Tips:
You are free to use the template document in the assignment as a guide, but note that I will be looking for the sections noted above in your final submission.
Go back to previous modules to complete this assignment (e.g., Module 1 for details about human-computer interaction). Be sure to add citations or attributions for any articles or websites that you use.
Review my feedback on any assignments you have submitted so far in the course.
I’m also including 2 frequently asked questions:
1) Do we need to go into as much detail with the hardware as the prior assignment where we build a computer system for a Family, Graphic Art Student, or Gamer?
No. Why not? Because instead of one system, you are building three systems, and you have several other considerations such as networking and security. I do want you to include basic components such as RAM and hard drive space, though, and any other components that will differ between the 3 roles. But I don’t need you to tell me a specific brand or link to a shopping page — just tell me the amount of RAM or hard drive space each will need, for example.
2) Can the 3 builds be mostly the same in terms of hardware?
No, they need to be different. Why? Each job has different requirements in terms of the applications they use on a daily basis, as well as access to various pieces of information and privacy concerns.
In addition, your client is paying you a lot of money, and they want to know that you customized each build to suit the needs of each of the employees. Believe it or not, this actually happens in the real world. The CPA will be very angry if he/she sees that the Data Entry Specialist has the same exact computer as he/she does.
If you’re having trouble with the hardware for each role, read the descriiptions of each role again. Try to understand how each person works with the others, what their typical day looks like, and imagine what hardware would make sense. Do some outside research. Make assumptions if you have to, based on the short descriiptions you are provided. Use your best judgment.
